USA Exchange Programme

HTX Svendborg has a well established exchange programme with Itasca Community College in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. If you would like to learn more about American English and culture then you can be part of the exchange programme. The programme takes place in the 2nd year of your studies and lasts for approx. 9 weeks from August to the Fall holiday. The students on exchange are together with a member of the teaching staff from HTX.

The exchange programme costs approx. 30.000 DKK including weekly allowance (but excluding resident visa costs). The teaching programme begins before departure with a joint theme together with the American students who are here on their exchange. The theme includes inter-cultural understanding of both countries' particular culture including the business enviroment.

The exchange programme starts with a 3 day visit to New York, where after the trip continues to Grand Rapids in Minnesota. In Grand Rapids students are assigned their locale host family which lasts for a number of weekends. As well as taking part in daily life there are also longer excursions. Amongst these includes a bus trip to the Black Hills in South Dakota, where the Wild West can still be experienced with bison heards, wild horses and alot more. Another excursion could be a canoe trip north to the canadian border where the raw natural environment is very close by!

The college semester and teaching begins 1 September. Teaching takes place partly with American teaching staff and partly with the member of teaching staff from HTX based at Itasca Community College. The teaching curriculum is equal to that your class receives in DK. On returning home you again join your original class thereby completing your HTX course in the normal 3 years, but with an extra international, cultural and linguistic experience!
